Gratitude: Things I'm Loving in July 2016

GRATITUDE: JULY 2016

Little things bring me joy. Experiences, flavors, funny movies and books I can’t put down. I also love knowing what others are loving. What new restaurant have you tried or what book can you not stop talking about? These are just a couple of things that jumped out to me last month. I hope they’ll bring you a joy in the small spaces like they have me.

READ (On my way to reading 27 books in the next year!):
Where’d You Go, Bernadette
This was a decent, quirky book. I wasn’t a great fan of the ending through, which was a bummer.

What Alice Forgot
This one was my favorite read of the month and definitely recommend it!

On the Fence
This was my second Kassie West book and I loved this read as much as the first book. It was super cute, easy summer read and would be great to pack for vacation.

WATCHED/LISTENED TO:

Brooklyn
Drop everything you are doing now, run (figuratively speaking of course) to Amazon and download this movie. It is a beautifully kind movie and by far one of the best movies of last year. Plus I really want to be BFFs with Saoirse Ronan.

Before We Go
This was one of those “oh let’s see what’s on Netflix and watch at night” movies and it was so rewarding. Chris Pine as the charming male lead (also in his directorial debut) meets a cute girl on the streets of New York. And yet, not everything ends as you’d typically predict it would. It’s a great girls night movie.

The West Wing Weekly podcast
Whether you’re a lifelong West Wing lover who wants to have Josh Lyman’s babies or have no idea who President Bartlett is, watch episode 1 on Netflix and then listen to the first episode of this podcast. If you love podcasts, pop culture, interviews with actors, or behind-the-scenes trivia, I hope you’ll love this podcast as much as I do.

The Happy Hour podcast
Each week, Jamie invites a girlfriend on to her show to talk about family, faith, books, vacations, life, and anything else that comes up. There are so many amazing tidbits and words of encouragement that come out of this hour each week. I can’t say enough good things about this show. If you’re a woman in need of some encouragement, good books to read from amazing authors, or super hip, fair-trade companies to shop from, check this show out.

COOKED:
Homemade Buttermilk Fried Chicken– Fried Chicken
I had been begging my mom for several years to teach me how to make fried chicken, the good, real kind my grandma used to make. I’ll be perfecting my recipe over the next couple of months and share the recipe on here when I do.

Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies
– My favorite chocolate chip cookies!
These are so yummy, straightforward and easy to make.

ENJOYED:

My Sseko bag
I bought this bag as a splurge earlier this summer as we were wrapping up our lives and jobs in southern California, I began my full-time summer job, and A transitioned to life in Colorado. It was my first “big girl” purchase and I was so nervous about buying a real leather bag. But I love it. Absolutely love it. I carry it everyday to work and can throw my wallet, essential oils, iPad, planner, and book into it and it’s still not super heavy or anything. Plus, it’s an amazing company that works directly with women in Africa, providing them fair wages and restoring dignity.
